The Canadian Society of Club Managers Launches First-Ever Virtual Conference
TORONTO, Ontario (April 17, 2020) – In light of COVID-19 and the uncertainty of when the Canadian economy will be re-opened in 2020, The Canadian Society of Club Managers (CSCM) has decided to hold the CSCM National Conference virtually in 2020.
Originally scheduled for October 3-6, 2020 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the conference hosts approximately 150 club managers from across North America with 4+ days of networking and education opportunities. While still in the development phase, the virtual conference will still be hosted by the CSCM Saskatchewan Branch. The conference will offer similar education and networking opportunities as an in-person conference, including virtual club tours and a virtual awards ceremony. “CSCM has two primary responsibilities – to offer specialized education in club management and to bring together members so they can learn from each other. In the last few weeks, the Society has taken a leadership role by populating a club specific COVID-19 page on our website and also conducting frequent Zoom calls to offer peer-to-peer support for our membership. Bringing the national conference into an online format is an extension of this offering,” said Trevor Noonan, CCM, CCE, CSCM President.
Suzanne Godbehere, Chief Executive Officer for CSCM further explained, “Canadian clubs still do not know the full extent of how COVID-19 will affect their balance sheets. What we do know is that professional development and travel budgets are often the first items cut in an effort to create some sense of normalcy after a crisis of this nature. CSCM wanted to show our members and the club management community that we could still offer all the benefits of membership without having to stretch their PD budgets this year.” Godbehere added that, “we will also offer our corporate partners and sponsors a unique opportunity to participate in our first-ever virtual exhibit hall. The CSCM team and the national planning committee is excited to deliver on this new conference format which will offer another medium for education delivery in the future.”
The virtual conference will take place on or around the original conference dates. CSCM has also launched their 2020 Awards Program. The annual awards honour members who have made a significant contribution to the Society and the profession of club management in Canada, supporting CSCM’s mission to offer quality education and networking opportunities for its members. The awards recognize the best in club management in Canada, including new recipients of the Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation.
The deadline for submission for all awards will be 5:00 PM ET on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.
Individuals and/or clubs can submit an application for several awards categories such as Club of the Year, Club Manager of the Year, Excellence in Teaching, and Young Professional.
